Availability and Utilization of Material Resources by Lecturers for Effective Teaching of Business Education in Colleges of Education in Enugu State

Abstract

This study investigated the availability and utilization of material resources by lecturers for effective teaching of business education in colleges of education in Enugu state three objectives guided the study. Three research questions were posed and answered for the study. 1 null hypothesis was formulated and tested for the study. A questionnaire instrument validated by 3 validates was used for data collection. Twenty copies of the instrument were administered to test for reliability and a Cronbach Alpha value of 0.84 was obtained for the instrument indicating that the instrument is reliable. The population of the study was 215 comprising 199 business education 
students and 16 business education lecturers. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive 
statistical tools (frequency table, percentage, and mean scores) to answer the research questions 
while t-Test statistic was used to test the null hypothesis at .05 level of significance. The study 
revealed that out of the 19 material resources stipulated by NCCE (2009) for effective teaching of 
business education in colleges of education, 7 was available and 4 usually utilized by the lecturers 
in the colleges of education. The study revealed also that 12 of the stipulated material resources 
were not available and at the same time, 8 challenges were identified as usually faced by the 
lecturers in using the available material resources. Based on the findings of the study, it was 
recommended among others that the federal government, state and other stake holders involved 
should provide adequate funding necessary for equipping and updating the business education 
workshops, libraries, studios, etc
